Electronic books, or e-books as they are more commonly known, are books that are read on electronic devices, including home PCs and mobile phones. By far the most common way of reading them though, is through an e-book reader. Since 1998, the public have been able to access books electronically, however the introduction of Amazon’s Kindle in 2009, followed by the Sony PRS-500 and the Apple iPad in 2010, has seen this method of buying books soar, and in July 2010 Amazon sold more e-books than hardback books.
